Routine and Organization during the Pandemic

The whole Studyo team has had to re-adjust the way we work over the last few days as we’ve all moved into quarantine. We know that it’s not easy to adjust to working from home, especially when you have kids or teens hanging around. It’s hard to concentrate on your own work without letting them fall into the bad habit of binge-watching t.v. series all day. Routine and structure help kids and teens have purpose and direction. After hearing many stories from parents who are at home with their kids or counsellors trying to coach students, we decided that we wanted to help! Below you’ll find a few tips & tricks on how opening up a FREE Studyo account can help you provide the planning and organizational tools that students needs during these crazy times.

1. Create an Account

The first step to getting students into a good habit-building routine is to create a FREE account on Studyo. You will then be able to set up a suitable schedule.

2. Configure their Schedule

Kids’ initial reaction to being out of school may be excitement, but that will only last for a while. Kids and teens may begin to feel bored, lonely and insecure in light of everything that has been going on. Routines will give kids and teens a sense of purpose and it will allow them to feel safe and secure during this pandemic.

Our Helpful Tips:

Stick to What you Know

Plan Your Breaks

Respect the Schedule

Be Proactive

3. Add Tasks

When kids and teens have a plan, they become more accountable and productive so they get more done in less time. Having all of their tasks in one place will put them in the driver’s seat of their own learning. You can also use this planning to set boundaries. Determine which tasks or time periods are for independent work and which ones are meant for your kids to come to you for help. This will give parents, the ability to plan out some much needed quiet time!

Our Helpful Tips:

Non-Academic Tasks

4. Manage Tasks

Entering tasks to keep track of what you need to accomplish is definitely important. But beyond having a list of things to do, there needs to be some thought spent on planning when each task should be done, especially in light of all other tasks which are on our list. Will I have time to study the day I have my sporting practice? Will working on my essay the night grand-ma comes for dinner the best option? Should I take on larger challenges one small bite at a time to track my progress? All these skills really develop our ability to get organized!

Our Helpful Tips:

5. Create good habits by sticking to the routine

In order for students to reach their goals, they need to develop good habits from the start. Help them achieve success by encouraging them to use their planners every day.
